Aufgegeben - "Vergeltungsgeschoss" (2009) review - 100% score
Your speakers will hate you for even listening to this album....
WARNING... Before you even hit 'play' on this album, you better have a good set of speakers attached to your stereo... because if you don't, you're only asking for them to be rendered completely useless way before Vergeltungsgeschoss is even over. Believe me, I know. You have been warned.
The singing style that A. delivers, attributes to the in-depth pressing tone of the entire album. He uses (mostly) more of a prominently loud and very dominant dictatorship-style of singing, throughout all four of the tracks on Vergeltungsgeschoss.
"Faschist" is the first, and main song you should use extreme caution with. If you're not prepared, this is the song that will test the durability of your speakers. As from the very start, the sound blasts will strike you hard and quick... as you have not only eight sets of very loud, rapid gun-fire drum hits; but eight massive, explosion-based drum beats as well! If your speakers can survive this, you're probably good to go for the rest of the album. The riffing on this track maintains a leveled droning effect, while the drumming keeps a steady pace in between the explosive blasts. A. simply, and quite effectively dominates with his vocals. Almost intimidating at times. Almost. Very loud and forced, that demands your undivided attention.
The explosions aren't quite over, as of yet... as you get hit with one instantly upon onset of "NSBM Hammer". This track is my favorite, for two reasons... it's insanely catchy as hell, in addition to the extreme domination of the vocals. The droning effect of the guitar is present as well; only varying with a different style of overlaying riffs, bringing forth maximal atmospheric overtones. The drumming style is almost reminiscent of a marching-type sound, which is what makes this song excessively catchy. Six explosive-based drum beats lead into A. going full-force commanding mode with his vocals! Very profound; more like a dictative, spoken-word type of singing. Then another explosion leads into the most distressing of screams! Goddamn man, this is intense as hell! Four more explosions steamroll into that "marching-type", sounding drum beat. The intensity levels of this track are fucking off the charts! When I listen to Vergeltungsgeschoss, this track gets an insane amount of repeats before I am even able to move on to the next...
The atmospheric tones are very rich and concentrated with the last two tracks "Blutkult", and "Vergeltung". Very crisp, and biting cold. Both tracks compliment each other extremely well. The drumming style is less explosive, as in there are none present of either; yet still maintains a very hard-hitting, profoundly overwhelming sound. The overlaying effect of the droning style of the riffs are most impressive, bringing forth more of that icy atmosphere into the music! So fucking strong that you can literally feel the frigid burn. And, A.'s vocals... as I've already stated above, well... the way that he sings with such excessive command is immensely impressive. I have no doubt at all that the man is one self-asserted individual. You can pretty much feel his dominance all throughout Vergeltungsgeschoss.
I'm going to say something here... I rarely, and I do mean RARELY ever fucking talk politics, as I'm one just not to give a Goddamn. Furthermore, I say this, 'cause even though I do not speak nor understand German, only going by translating the song titles, as well as going by the very serious nature as to how this album unfolds itself unto you as you're listening to it; you best respect it and not fuck around. As it is a VERY demanding album. I'm not fucking kidding. Absolutely no lyrics are present, so I have absolutely nothing to go by, other than the given song titles (translated). Again, I must stress the very serious nature of this album. Either respect Vergeltungsgeschoss for what it is, or just don't listen to it. There is no middle ground.
In closing, I must also mention that every time I listen to this album, I often wonder what the hell has happened to A.. Vergeltungsgeschoss was released in 2009, yet no other albums have been released since. It really makes me wonder if this guy is even still considered to be "Active", or not. I would more place a bet on his status being "Unknown"; 'cause after this, fuck all if I even know. I would like to believe that at any given time, he would release another album. It's what I've been dreaming of, ever since hearing this beautiful, intensified masterpiece! I had initially found this album on YouTube some odd years ago, however that has long since been deleted (stupid terms of service violations, bs). It is still around online, you just got to search for it. I would like to know if any physical copies exist for any of Aufgegeben's three albums, something I highly doubt I'll ever know. However, I do own all of them digitally, so at least that's something. But, what I really need to say is that I NEED MORE Aufgegeben! Goddamn it!
